Description

A supersweet, mid season variety, producing an attractive mix of yellow and white grains on the same cob. Sweetcorn 'Summer Glow' performs well in difficult, cool locations, producing plenty of 20cm (8") long cobs. The cobs are deliciously sweet and tender ? perfect for barbecueing, steaming and boiling. Sow April to May. Sow seed 4cm (1.5in) deep in 7.5cm (3in) pots of free draining seed compost. Place in a propagator or seal container inside a polythene bag and place at a temperature of 18-20C (64-68F) until after germination which takes 7-10 days. Do not exclude light, as this helps germination.

Can also be sown direct outdoors once the soil has warmed, sow 2 seeds, 5cm (2in) deep, 23cm (9in) apart, and in rows about 45cm (18in) apart. Thin out to the strongest seedling.

Gradually acclimatise to outdoor conditions for a few days before planting out after all risk of frost has passed.

Water sweetcorn plants regularly until established, particularly during dry periods. Provide a thick mulch of organic matter around the base of the plants to help conserve moisture and reduce weed growth. Sweetcorn plants are shallow rooted so take care when hoeing to prevent root damage. Harvest sweetcorn cobs when the silky tassles at the end of the cob have turned brown. Peel back the sheath of the cob slightly and press the corn kernels with a fingernail until liquid squeezes out. If liquid is milky coloured then the cob is ripe, if clear then it is under-ripe.

Returns

You can return an item to us for either exchange or refund within 21 days of receiving it, providing that the product is unused, and in the condition that it arrived in, including any packaging.
